The new UK swing of the European Tour starts this week with the return of the Betfred British Masters which is being hosted by Lee Westwood. The field is a lot stronger than the previous events in Austria, but still has little starpower with Westwood himself being favourite from Thomas Detry. Irish interest will be sparked by the return to competitive golf for Paul Dunne after a wrist injury. He was a winner here in 2017 and previous form at the Colt course at Close House is a factor in the selections.
Pablo Larrazabal has had an excellent season on the European Tour in spite of the Covid Pandemic. He won the Alfred Dunhill before Christmas and had a top-10 in Qatar before the break. He was tied-26th at this event at Close House in 2017 and seems to have things going in the right direction. Three of his wins on the tour have come off a break, so things look promising.
Callum Shinkwin has a lot of potential but has yet to convert it into a Euro win. Before the break in Oman, he made some silly errors when in serious contention. He has lost out in a playoff for the Scottish Open when he should have won before also. He has the ability and there is a feeling that this would be a good week to get off the mark.
Another with potential is Sam Crocker. The American has taken a Koepka-esque root in the professional ranks and has shown promise in Asia also. He is too big a price this week to ignore.
The last two selections are big prices, but good value. Gavin Moynihan is taken again to go well at a venue where he gained his first professional win on the Europro Tour in 2017. He only got into the field late, but can take advantage of that bonus. Meanwhile, Eduardo De La Riva has played well in Austria the last couple of weeks and went well here in 2017. Worth a put at tasty odds.
