Just like last week, the European Tour probably has the stronger of this week's tournaments with the return of the flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship from the West Course at Wentworth Golf Club. The field is bolstered by the inclusion of "fan favourite", Patrick Reed, who joins Tommy Fleetwood as the top seeds at the top of the betting market. Major champions like Shane Lowry and Justin Rose are also present this week and there is strength right down through the field. Wentworth is the home of the European Tour and is an iconic venue on this side of the Atlantic. Finding the winner from this 120-man field will not be easy but some bookmakers are offering 8 places this week, so we have a more sporting chance of getting a winner.
The headline selection this week is a player who has performed solidly since the lockdown finished. Matt Wallace has been impressive in the consistency of results that he has produced over on the PGA Tour this summer. His fourth place at the Memorial Tournament was his best performance along with a creditable showing at the US Open. He was tied-30th last week in Scotland after being on the wrong side of the draw. His last two visits to Wentworth have also been solid with a tied-20th in 2018. He is an ambitious player and a win here this week will fulfil a lot of the potential that many see in him.
Adri Arnaus has put in some eye-catching performances in his short European Tour career. Three runner-up spots and three other top-10's in his rookie season in 2019 established him as one for the future but the pandemic has broken his stride somewhat. He has been pretty solid since the return of competitive golf and was in the top-30 last week after also being on the wrong side of the draw. He is a Wentworth novice this week, but the signs point to him thriving this week.
Jazz Janewattananond has played all over the world since lockdown finished.
However, he has missed a number of cuts including at the PGA and US Open. This bad run seems to have been ended by an impressive tied-3rd at the Irish Open and his debut at the BMW PGA should be another good showing.
Nicholas Colsaerts has shown a rejuvenation in his form over the last year and since lockdown. He had a top-10 at the English Championship and was in the top-30 last week in Scotland. It is almost 12 months since he won at the French Open and his form at Wentworth has been good in the past with a 3rd place in 2017. Things seem to be coming around nicely for the Belgian Bomber.
The last selection this week is the young Indian talent, Shubhankar Sharma. After exploding on the scene in 2018 with two European Tour wins, things have been quiet for Sharma of late. However, he had a top-30 finish in Scotland last week and has been in the top-20 here last year in his only Wentowrth appearance. At a big price, he can go very well.
