After a close finish at the Corales last week, where Hudson Swafford won, the PGA Tour returns to mainland America for the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. This is the second year that this event is a fully-fledged PGA tournament with Sebastian Munoz defending the title he won last week. The course at Jackson stretches to over 7,400 yards with Bermuda greens and form lines that tie in well with Sedgefield, which hosts the Wyndham. Scottie Scheffler is back following his US Open withdrawal after contracting Covid-19. He is the favourite in the market from Sungjae Im and Will Zalatoris. This should be another birdie-fest this week with soft conditions anticipated. Solid course and recent form are again crucial coupled with a liking for Bermuda greens.
The headline selection this week is Sam Burns. Sam has a third-place finish here from two years ago and had a good week at the Corales last week, apart from a poor Saturday round which can be forgiven. He was also in the top-10 at the Safeway Open, so comes in great form. He loves Bermuda greens and was tied-13th at the Wyndham which only enhances his credentials. He should go close.
Luke List was another man having a good week at Puntacana last week, but an average weekend meant that his T-8th finish was not better. He has already won on the KFT this year and is clearly feeling good about his game. He was T-2nd at the Sanderson in 2016, so the course form is there to convince that it should be a good week for Luke.
Denny McCarthy has looked like a man who could win on Tour since he arrived on the scene a few years ago. He played solidly last week and was tied-7th here two years ago. He had a top-10 at the Wyndham earlier in the year which only confirms that he is a player worth considering.
Adam Schenk showed well in the early rounds last week and has a tied-7th here from two years ago. He probably achieved his potential yet, but this week could sort that out.
Patton Kizzire was playing well over the weekend last week after making the cut. It was an eye-catching performance for a guy who likes to play well in the Fall. He has two top-10 finishes at the Sanderson including a 4th place in 2015.
Finally, Martin Laird put in a good showing last week after missing most of the season with the pandemic and injury. He was also tied-7th here in 2018 and enjoys Bermuda greens given his wins at the Arnold Palmer and Texas Open in the past.
